The four-year focus of the academic pathway

Immersion

Preparatory Year*

Starting with an intensive immersion semester in hospitality operations, you will gain working knowledge of all areas of a hotel and restaurant, with the privilege of practicing in a Michelin-starred restaurant under the direction of industry-awarded chefs and instructors. Then, you complete the first, operational internship in the hospitality industry, based anywhere in the world.

Foundation

First Year – Bachelor

In the first year of the BSC (after Preparatory Year), you will begin setting the foundation for your management career, learning the tools of the hospitality trade and the technology and terminology of the industry for key hospitality departments and functions.

Application

Second Year – Bachelor

In the second year, you will take a challenging academic approach to hospitality management theory guided by advanced academic practitioners, applying research to generate robust business and entrepreneurship plans. The academic semester is followed by a management internship based anywhere in the world, during which you take on a supervisory role or you can even be an intern in your own hospitality start-up company.

Innovation

Third Year – Bachelor

In the final year, you will apply the knowledge and skills you have gained to become a business strategist and consultant. You will have the chance to choose from our industry-designed electives and tailor make your areas of expertise.  You will also become a consultant, working in a group to solve a real-world business challenge for an industry partner.

*Students of the Singapore campus begin their Preparatory Year at the EHL Campus Lausanne, and then begin their first year of the Bachelor course at EHL Campus (Singapore).

The Professional Pathway to the Bachelor’s Degree

This pathway offers a deeper immersion in operations and broader experience in management with more work experience to jump-start your career.

The balanced practical focus of the professional pathway

By following the Professional Pathway, you will graduate with two recognized Swiss degrees in hospitality management, giving you unique professional advantages to launch your career.

Starting with the Swiss Professional Diploma*, you will benefit from a balanced 50/50 combination of theoretical and practical learning with a strong customer focus that includes a strong foundation of industry experience. This program focuses on fundamental hospitality management concepts combined with in-depth operational skills in Food & Beverages, customer-centric Services and Hotel Management. In the final semester of the Swiss Professional Degree, you will specialize in one of two Majors: Culinary Arts or Spa & Wellness Management.

Upon successful completion of the Professional Diploma, you can complete your bachelor’s degree by studying for three more semesters focusing on international business strategy and development, acquiring additional skills to be an effective business leader in your future career. You will follow the same courses as those offered on the campus in Lausanne, (See Semester 3 & 5 of the Academic Pathway), delivered at SSTH.  The final semester (Semester 6 of the Academic Pathway), is delivered in Lausanne.
